The Council of Souls
What replaced the crown after the first war. A body drawn from every community, human and monster alike.
What is known
It is elected. Marcus, formerly "the gruff foreman she remembered from Valdris", is asked to serve as its first Speaker, "a position that suited his natural leadership abilities" (ch. 99).
Its recorded acts, all by vote:
- Funding the Hall of Heroes, unanimously.
- Creating the Order of Knighthood.
- Declaring Heroes' Day a continental holiday.
- Naming Illia the museum's first official artist.
Why it matters
King Aldric Thorne's answer to the war was a peace built on hostages and administered from a throne. What actually ended it produced a council instead, and the first thing that council did with its power was build a library.
Open questions
- What happened to the crown, and to Aldric.
- Whether it survives into Act 6 and beyond. The provinces of Maeris in Arthur's era are ruled some other way.
